ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini as everyday AI assistants (Singapore, 2026)

We use all three of these assistants daily, across personal admin and running real businesses — this comparison comes from operating them, not from reading spec sheets. No affiliate links, no vendor compensation. Products in this category change monthly: this page is dated, we re-review it periodically, and where a difference is likely to have shifted by the time you read this, we say so.

One framing note before the comparison: all three are general assistants. They answer, draft, summarise, and research superbly — but none of them will, on its own, watch your WhatsApp enquiries or chase your unpaid quotes. For that distinction, see our guide on what AI assistants can actually do.

ChatGPT remains the default for a reason: the widest spread of built-in abilities (voice conversations, image generation and understanding, custom GPTs, a large plugin-like ecosystem), strong memory of your preferences across chats, and the most polished mobile experience of the three. If you want one app that does a bit of everything well, it is the safe pick.

Weak points from daily use: quality can wobble between updates — behaviour you liked can quietly change; and on consumer plans your chats may be used for model training unless you find the setting to opt out, which matters if you paste anything sensitive. Business plans handle this properly, but most individuals never look.

Claude (made by Anthropic — disclosed since our own tooling uses it) is the strongest of the three at sustained, careful work: long documents, complex reasoning, nuanced writing that doesn't read like AI wrote it, and understanding large amounts of context in one conversation. Its Projects feature — standing collections of documents and instructions the assistant always has in context — is the closest any consumer assistant gets to a real working relationship. For technical users, Claude Code is currently the best AI coding tool available.

Weak points: a smaller consumer ecosystem — no image generation, fewer integrations and toys than ChatGPT; and its conservative streak means it occasionally declines things the others would just do. If your usage is quick questions and casual creativity rather than deep work, its strengths may not show.

Gemini's decisive advantage is placement: it lives inside Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Android. If your life already runs on Google Workspace, Gemini can summarise the email thread you are looking at, draft in the doc you have open, and pull from your calendar — integration the other two can only approximate. Its free tier is also the most generous of the three, and paid plans bundle with Google One storage, which many Singapore households already pay for.

Weak points: outside the Google ecosystem its case weakens sharply, and the experience is fragmented — the assistant behaves differently in Gmail versus the app versus search, and Google's habit of renaming and reshuffling its AI products means what you learn this month may be labelled differently next quarter.

All three follow the same shape: a capable free tier, and a consumer subscription at roughly US$20/month (about S$27–30 depending on the exchange rate and billing route). Gemini's paid tier bundles into Google One AI plans; ChatGPT and Claude bill directly. All three offer higher business tiers with admin controls and proper data-handling terms — if you are pasting customer information into an assistant, the business tier's no-training guarantee is the feature you are actually buying, whichever vendor you choose.

Ignore the brand war; pick by what you do most:

• Handling customer data at work — whichever you pick, use its business tier.
